1988-'89
School of Visual Arts,
Continuing Education
While I worked at the Museum of Modern Art during the days, in the evenings I took
classes at the School of Visual Arts. My goal was to master the
newest desktop publishing applications that had been just
released, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
1983-'85
New York Studio School, Intensive Drawing, Painting
and Sculpture
After graduating from the University of
Michigan, I felt I needed a more indepth education in the most
fundamental visual arts, Drawing, Painting and Sculpture. I
studied with numerous well known fine artists including, Nicolas
Carone, Frederic Thurz, Howard Hussey, Peter Agostini, Wayne
Tiebaud, Mel Bockner and Robert DeNiro Sr.
This experience
was the most memorable of my education because through it I
learnt how others saw the world and the underlying elements they
used to visually express. I learnt that the art of seeing is at the
core of the art of visual expression and visual creativity.
The fundamentals that I learnt during this time were so
strong that I knew that they could sustain me as a visual
artist.
1979-'83
University of Michigan, B.F.A. in Design & Fine Art
This art school provided an excellent opportunity to explore many
means of visual expression. I majored in graphic design but
also explored numerous fine art mediums including: photography,
printmaking, sculpture, drawing and painting.
This experience provided
me with a broad understanding of the arts and a solid foundation
in typography and graphic design.
1979-'81
Art Students League of NY, Drawing, Painting & Scupting from Life
After high school and
while I attended college, I
spent summers refining my ability to draw, paint and sculpt from
the live figure. This was a period of self awareness and an awakening
to different approachs to seeing and visually expressing through line, tone, color and
form.
